About THE GYM
Dear Friend,
How passionate are you about pursuing your own happiness? How great is your desire to experience pleasure in life? I have visited places as far away as France, Greece, and Israel, and one thing always stays the same: people everywhere seek happiness. People everywhere hotly pursue what they believe will bring them the greatest pleasure in life: alcohol, drugs, sex, fame, forture, power--you name it.
The Bible says that people who are really serious about happiness and pleasure in life will discover it by pursuing one thing: the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31; Psalm 73:25).
What does it mean to glorify God? It means to find our greatest delight in him. It means to treasure him above everything else. It means that we seek to obey him because we believe that if we keep his commandments we will live life as it was meant to be lived, and will experience the greatest joy. Above all, it means that we are called to glorify God by trusting and treasuring his son Jesus Christ, and resting and reveling in the love that he demonstrated toward sinners on the cross (John 3:16).
We at Grace Youth Ministries (THE GYM) want to encourage young men and women to glorify God and to walk in joyful obedience to his son Jesus. We recognize that every truly biblical youth ministry wants to do the same thing. Yet we also recognize that every youth ministry is unique. There are no two that are exactly alike. While (hopefully) we all seek to glorify God, we have different ways of pursuing that purpose. As you read through this viewbook, we hope that what is important to us becomes clear to you, and that you will get a better sense of what we are trying to accomplish in the hearts and minds of our youth.
Whether you are a parent or a student, we are so thankful you have chosen to be a part of the Grace Baptist family, and have chosen to learn more about “the GYM”.
